Education

University of the Cumberlands            May 2016

  • Master of Arts in Teaching English (GPA 3.9)

The summation of my first Masters experience? Well, I learned you don’t really master anything. But you take steps towards proven practices and you begin to rely on data and evidence to guide your thinking as a teacher. That essentially sums up my $11,458 Master’s degree. I don’t mean this to sound perfunctory or sarcastic. It was time well spent. Having already spent several years as a paraeducator, my Master’s experience rounded out my understanding of the learning process. Theory was being immediately turned into practice during these formative years.

Eastern Kentucky University            May 2012

  • Bachelor of Arts in University Studies (GPA 3.9)

What can be said about the undergrad experience? I had returned to undergrad work as a young adult when I finally had a vision for my future. As I transferred my credits to EKU from Cincinnati Christian University, I knew from that very moment that I wanted to teach. Hence the rather generic degree. This was calculated. I wanted to begin a Masters program as quickly as possible.

Stepping into the Classroom

After a decade working in the Fortune 500 environment in the I/T sector, I make the nerve-racking but exciting move into education in search of deeper purpose. Having spent years in computer systems (software) and human resources (hiring software and hardware personnel), I set my sights on an English certification.

Thoughts on Project Based Learning. . .

Back when we were masked up. Rapt Productions was in the buidling doing some marketing stuff when they pulled me aside to ask about my approach to learning.
